trade safely.
As of: 3 November 2026
The vast majority of deals on öppis go smoothly. These rules help keep it that way.
Meet in person
Meet in a busy place, such as a train station, ideally during the day. For expensive items, bring someone along. Inspect the item carefully before you pay.
Pay on handover
Cash or TWINT — once the item is in your hands. Never pay strangers in advance, and never pay with gift cards or money-transfer services.
Beware of links
The most common scam: someone "buys" your item and sends you a link — supposedly from Swiss Post, TWINT or öppis — to "receive the money". It is always a scam. To receive money you never need to enter card details, codes or passwords.
öppis never asks for passwords
We only write from an @oppis.ch address and never ask for card details, codes or passwords. A sign-in link only arrives if you requested it yourself.
Stay in the öppis chat
People who want to switch to WhatsApp or e-mail straight away often want to avoid leaving a trail. In the öppis chat everything stays traceable — and after the deal you can leave a review there.
Warning signs
- Price far below the usual
- Seller "currently abroad", shipping only
- Pressure: "today only", "others are interested"
- Advance payment only
- Excuses instead of real photos
Cars, bikes, electronics
For vehicles, check the registration document and service book and compare the name with the seller's. For phones and laptops: is the device signed out of iCloud or Google? Ask for a receipt — a short sales contract is enough.
